CARE Board Statement to Address Potential Confusion About the WA Cares Fund Ballot Measure

October 8, 2025

The Andy Hill Cancer Research Endowment Fund Board of Directors (CARE Board) wants to address a potential source of confusion as Washington voters prepare for the November 4, 2025 ballot.

Named in honor of late State Senator Andy Hill, the Andy Hill CARE Fund is Washington’s cancer research endowment and was established to make grants for cancer research in the state. Unrelated to the Andy Hill CARE Fund, a ballot measure this fall will ask voters whether the state should be allowed to invest assets from the WA Cares Fund—Washington’s public long-term care program—into stocks and equities. WA Cares Fund is funded through payroll taxes and is not connected to cancer research.

To clarify: Andy Hill Cancer Research Endowment (CARE) Fund is entirely separate from WA Cares Fund.

Andy Hill CARE Fund is focused exclusively on the promotion of cancer research in Washington State and is neither impacted by nor involved with WA Cares Fund. This includes the upcoming ballot measure.

Washington’s commitment to cancer research funding via the Andy Hill CARE Fund is leading to a better understanding of the causes of cancer, technological innovations, and innovative new treatment approaches that will lead to improved outcomes for people who are diagnosed with or at risk of developing cancer.

If you have any questions about the Andy Hill CARE Fund, its grants supporting cancer research in our state, or how your donations are used, please don’t hesitate to reach out at beau@wacarefund.org.

Thank you for your continued support of cancer research in Washington.
